Moving to Spain

There is no doubt that living in Spain has its rewards, but it is important that before you make the decision to come that you have researched it properly and you are sure it is right for you and your family. Balance the realistic research you do with your passion to make the change and we are sure you will make a good decision.

Where do you start?

Your decision to move to Spain will be based on something. You have spent many wonderful holidays there? You have family living there? You have the offer of a job in the Country? Whatever the reason the basis of your research should be pretty much the same. We at antequeraspain.com want to offer some of the advice and thoughts of those who have done it. In almost all the cases there are so many of the same questions that we think we can safely say that the information on these pages will be of some use in helping to answer the inevitable long list of questions you will have.

Where in Spain do you want to live?

There are many different areas of Spain. Both coastal and inland regions offer their own attractions and although you may have a lot of knowledge about areas where you have spent holidays or have friends or family, it may not necessarily be a place that is right for your long term move and new life in Spain. Each region of Spain has its own distinct culture and often dialect as well variations of regulations. Although many associate sun and warmth with Spain the climate differs greatly up and down the peninsular.

It will be important to do as much research as possible about which area might suit your needs the best. By doing a few visits and using the internet to help, you can start to answer the questions which will lead to an informed decision. Obviously many of the general concerns such as schooling, health, buying or renting a home, registering in Spain, buying cars and so on will be the same throughout the country.

Why do people live in the region of Antequera?

Andalucia is a very rich part of Spain. Not necessarily rich in wealth but most certainly in culture, history and lifestyle. Having met so many people who have moved to this area it seems to be the lifestyle change that has been the reason for so many of them to move here.

A key part in any lifestyle is the climate. Spain is renowned for its climate and Andalucia, in general, has a Mediterranean climate; with dry summers and average temperatures of 35 degrees C to cooler and mild winters with average temperatures of 16 degrees C.  This is one of the main reason which makes Antequera a favoured destination.

There is an established ex pat community already living in the region of Antequera. Although part of that community it does not mean that they all spend all day every day together. It just means that there are things going on that you can join in on in the area if you choose to. It offers an element of support to you as an expat should you wish to tap into it, knowing that others, who speak your language, have gone through the move that you are making and that there are services available locally to help you.

It also means that the local Spanish people are already used to having an expat community living in and around the town of Antequera.

Being part of the Spanish lifestyle means that you will inevitably slow down. The weather and the towns approach to day to day life means you will probably need to take time to adjust to how things are done. This may not meet with how you are used to living your life but it is one of the things which in time you will realise is one of the charms that so many fall in love with.

When you have decided on where you want to live, then what?

Once you have decided on an area where you want to be the actual logistics of putting that move into action will suddenly kick in.
