Mollina
Mollina is located just 15kms to the north-west of Antequera. It is a small welcoming Spanish town with a population of around 4000. It won its independence from nearby Antequera at the beginning of the 19th century. Although during the 60's many youngsters left for work on the coast as agriculture died and the population dwindled today Mollina is a hustling and bustling small Spanish town. With an influx of foreign visitors and residents the population has increased over recent years and many new developments both houses and mobile home parks have helped Mollina grow. Set amongst olive trees and vineyards Mollina still produces a surprising 80 per cent of the wine made in the province of Málaga.
The town is excellently located being only 15 minutes from the new high speed train link and just past Antequera on the A92 Granada-Sevilla motorway. This means there is easy access to Malaga, Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba. On the lower slopes of the Sierra de Mollina and within easy reach of the surrounding villages of Alameda, Sierra de Yeguas, Humilladero and Fuente de Piedra (famous for its pink flamingos) Mollina is a good place to live and visit.
Over the past 10 years the Antequera region has seen the arrival of many new British ex pat residents. Inland Spain has become a desirable place to live and many have chosen it over the Coast. Mollina is one of those such towns that has been popular. Because of this Mollina has seen more businesses open up and has benefited from the visiting friends and families of its new residents. The local residents have welcomed this and embraced the British with open arms. Subsequently there is always something for you to do in Mollina whether it be attending the weekly farmers market, enjoying food and drink in one of the tapas bars or simply investigating the local town and spending time with the locals. Regular daily bus public transport will take you in and out of Antequera and on to Malaga if you decide that you do not want to drive. |
